Research Project

The aims of this project are to characterise the performance of Internet Protocol (IP) networks and to develop novel, intelligent data analysis methods for assessing the quality of service (QoS) of such networks for real-time applications. The project will investigate how to determine the QoS of IP network connections by analysis of the data flow between hosts for two important classes of Internet applications - HTTP web browsing and voice over IP. Novel IDA methods will be developed to retrieve and analyse changes in network parameters and protocol behaviour, for different network conditions and traffic, and to relate these to network problems and quality of service. A prototype analyser for assessing the QoS of Internet connections will be developed and used to bench mark changes in the QoS in real world IP networks.
